»Hey Liz C1 just fyi I know one of the planning analysts said back in the discussion part of this thing that they are going to be buying new buses soon . They apparently buy them every 10 years or so.

»Up to date and mechanically sound busses would also be great. Ours are falling apart and breaking down constantly.
Oh gee airconditioning that works would also be appreciated. This week was like a "SAUNA" on many of the busses.
Maybe instead of a rusty lookin pile of steel called a statue, we should invest in our TRANSIT BUSSES!

»Definatly love the idea of extending the hours. Hard to catch a bus after work when you get home after 5pm. The Sunday service would be wonderful too.

»I would keep the south broadway the way it is because a friend of mine that's in a wheelchair uses that bus because it goes right by where he he lives so please don't eliminate it

»The airport shouldn't be the focus of change. There is already service to the airport and you already have to be there 2 hours or more ahead of any flight so what's another hour or so for the bus ride? If you can afford the rediculous airfare's at Wichita airport then you can afford a cab if you aren't patient enough to ride the existing route

»"If financial support for transit [is] not increased", then I would recommend an even more radical approach. Shut down fixed-route bus service altogether. Replace it with a system that is 100% based on paratransit. Sell all the buses. Use the capital budget to create a computerized smart-phone based system, in which individual private citizens contract with Wichita Transit to provide door-to-door service on demand. Maybe even buy some of those self-navigating google-mobiles.

Do not compromise with inadequate funding. Face it head-on, shut things down, and force people to see the truth. $155 million for Kellogg and Rock, $215 million for Kellogg and I-235, $340 million for Kellogg and Webb -- that is where the dollars are going.

»(off topic, train comment:) The truth is, BNSF wants to abandon the line through Raton Pass. If the passenger train continues to go through Newton, it will almost be forced to turn South and go through Wichita. More likely, though, it will bypass Newton altogether and go through El Dorado and Mulvane. Sympathies to Newton, Hutchinson, Garden City and all the other towns that are about to lose train service.

»Disagree. Accommodating future growth is a trap. The city should serve the people who are here _now._ If someone _chooses_ to live out in the middle of nowhere (or build a business there), they should be required to shoulder all the costs and inconveniences associated with that choice. Don't kill the city to serve the suburbs.

»... and manufacturers need to be encouraged to encourage their employees to use these routes. But how? Guaranteed Rides home? Tax incentives? Turnpikes? A knotty problem.

Here's a pretty simple idea: when someone approaches the city with a request to use tax dollars to help build, for instance, a "53,000-square-foot indoor sports fieldhouse", and that development is not within wichita transit's service area, SAY NO. Make the developer promise to underwrite bus service to their new facility, or build their project on one of the thousands of empty lots already served by the bus.

Remember, for someone who is dependent on transit, that new Cabela's development might as well be in Omaha. Remember, one accident could render you, or me, or any of us, dependent on transit.

Just. Get. A. Clue.
